Gavin at Intheboatshed.net presented a post about "YouTube clips of ice yachting in Holland". I was so captivated that I thought I would share. It looks like they have mounted small traditionally constructed boats on to a blade rig. Even the rudder has blades attached. They must of had to reinforce the pintles and gudgeons that support the rudder, or at least reverse them...
Also, here is a link to The International Renegade Ice Yacht Association (IRIYA) official web site. It includes plans to build the 'Renagade" that are intriguing.

ReplyDeleteRikus,
ReplyDeleteYour from the Netherlands, can you tell more about the ice sailing there?
Kruez
I went to Renegade site... Nice ideas....
ReplyDeleteIf there's no ice and snow, alway can add wheels and go land sailing....
They do that in Bonneville @ the salt flats. And the wall-mart parking lot... Or perhaps at the mall... lol Just thinking of places large enough to sail on tires.
ReplyDeleteCool... But Wally World's parking lot is alway busy here, even aftra midnight.
ReplyDeletecool.. cool.. more like freezing, I have never seen anything like that pretty good , boats looked like they had clogs on ,must be hard to try to stop them going side ways, it was funny to see the people skating past , I was trying to think of a mermaid joke but think I am skating on thin ice here,

Hello Kruez,
ReplyDeletethanks for the email and let me remember about the ice sailing boats. Its been a while that I see one myselve
around the inner waters of holland. You need a long cold winter to be able to ice sail safely.
For the last 5 year I never was in Holland during the winter and only this last winter it would be possible
I think to do some ice sailing.
I still didnt get more than one replay on my questions on if its possible to put an automatic gearbox in my
future wooden boat.If its just silly ok,but i am interested in technic and would like to know why it will or
wont work.
Can you help me in any way to get some clue about it?
Thanks for keeping me posted on the wonderfull world of wooden boats.I also add some free plans for
you and the group. They are boat from 5.2 till 8.5 meter including all the setup of the patterns
and what size of wood you need,in planks or in multyplex.
All the best
