  1. Man, that look like a fun thing to do..
I wonder where a person can get casting sand locally..

Alloys can be had from scrap metal yards here.. plenty of brass, copper and aluminum

  2. Dunno,

I suppose one could purchase anything over the internet. Casting is something I have always wanted to do... I want to make a cast iron fire back for my fireplace. It something they used to use back in the day when the fire place was how you heated your house. The fire back would get red hot and radiate heat out into the room. Dunno why people don't still use them. It would work well with a gas log set too.

  3. Firebacks hardly seen anymore.. I saw a few before, I seen a wicked one with medieval dragons design... It is awesome..
Anymore people uses fire bricks or insert...Fireplace inserts are more efficient, heat more without losing most of heat up the chimney...

I think casting iron would be cool too..
Imagine building a 5 hp one-lunger marine engine?
