Hi sailors this is a video of me building a wooden canoe but they seem to be a wee bit jumbled up as I imported them from youtube.see more at , www.youtube.com/user/bogsdolics
Hi. I am building my first boat "a 12' all wood jon boat." I am having trouble finding out how, and what to use, to finish the out side. I wont the same kind of finished look you have on yours. can you help. Please email me at cwkaley@gmail.com Thanks and good job on your canoe.
Hi CWKALEY ,Thanks for your comments, I used yacht varnish bought from a local shop in Central Scotland and if memory serves I put 6 coats on sanding between each, I am very pleased with the result , although not used a lot and kept in a shed the finish still looks good apart from the scraps on the underside, post pictures of your build, more power to your elbow, Bogsdolics
Hey Bogs, I never caught this slideshow before, great job presenting your beautiful boat. You did a fine job - I am guessing you used 6 or 7 mm plywood? How did the scarfing go? What kindo of glue/epoxy did you use to bond the scarf?
How is your summer going - any more projects in the works?
Hi Thanks, It was my 1st attempt at boat building and I followed this crazy but great guy, http://koti.kapsi.fi/hvartial/oss3/oss3.htm I used 12mm ply and it was butt jointed although I wish now I had scarfed it, To make room for my next project or I offer it to a kids group called the beaver for free but they have still to get back to me. I will let ever one know what happens and how the next slow project goes, Bogsdolics.
Hi sorry forgot to say the glue was west system although now I use extramite , A powder you mix with water a lot cheaper, I use it on the rowing boat to great effect. Bogsdolics.
Extramite? that is new to me.. Thank Bogsdolics.. I just looked that up.. Sound like a good glue to try out on next simple project..
Edit to add; I looked everywhere on the network, none is available in United States (sad) Maybe I'll convince some chandleries over on east coast to see about stocking it..
Cool slideshow..
