CANOE SEAT

HI FOLKS ,I HAVE BUILT A FOLDING SEAT FOR MY CANOE [GRAWL] WHICH YOU CAN SEE AT http://uk.msnusers.com/SAILIINGDINGHY/grawlseat.msnw
I DO NOT HAVE ALOT OFF STORAGE SPACE LEFT OR I WOULD POST IT HERE.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT A LOT OF CANOE/KAYAK SITES BUT VERY FEW SHOW THE SEAT OR HOW THEY MADE THEM, OR THEY ARE PLASTIC WHICH ON A WOODEN BOAT MAYBE DOESN'T SIT JUST WRITE? ALSO VERY FEW SHOW HOW THEY MADE THE PADDLES/OARS OR HOW THEY DECIDED ON THE LENGH AND SHAPE.

  1. Bogs, go to my photo album (My Hiawatha) for an illustration of the canoe seat back I designed for my cane seats.  It collapses flat for packing.  The back hinges with the brass bolts and essentially puts pressure against the back rail of the seat itself for support.  The seat supports hook over the back edge of the canoe seat with the front of the back seat support "hooking" under the front edge of canoe seat.   I kept my seat back narrow (about 14") so that it does not get in the way of my paddle swing, or fishing rod casting.  I like my back to slant backward for a little more comfort, you will have to play with this a bit to get whats right for you...   I will take a photo of mine as soon as I dig it out of the garage and post it in the photo album...   Hope all this makes sense to you.  The seat back is quite comfortable and lightweight.  I have taken it on many wilderness trips.   Andy

  2. Hi Andy What you have built is truly a work of art ,you must/should be very proud it,
The seat you have built also looks good ,the one I have built is similar, I have used plywood for the vertical slats and stem bent a curve in them to aid my old back and rear, but I used a long wooden dowel for a hinge, this may not last and may need some brass hardware? it also tilts back at an angel for comfort and folds flat for transport although my slim body will hold it down I am going to tie it to the original back rest in case I have to leave for a dip?
