I took a bunch of detail photos of Sam Devlin boats when I was in Olympia last month. Would any of you be interested in having me make an album of some of them? What details are you interested in? I know I look at different things as my building project continues.
On kind of a related topic, I've got a bunch of photos of tug boats if you're interested:
Hey Carneyclown, thanks for the link. I think you meant http://woodenboatrescue.org/, not .com (which seems to be a cheap click aggregator). >>> they have a tug there that can be had just about for free Remember, there's nothing more expensive than a free boat! Believe me, I know from experience :-) On the other hand, that 50' harbor tug is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteTom, please do the album and thanks for all of the great tug pictures. Many people don't appreciate just how many service boats are out there plying the waters every single day. These boats and their operators go out in all weathers and not to just push barges and freighters around, but to act as pilots, rescuers, salvagers, etc. I spend as much time as I can up on Lake Superior. I go up to daydream about owning one of the bigger cruising yachts and consequently hang out alot in the harbors. I find myself often admiring the tugs and fishing boats. Hows Godzilla coming Tom? Wish you were closer so I could visit (and offer a helping hand)! Andy
ReplyDeleteWhat fun web pages! Another facet of boating not generally known. Thanks for sharing. Will
ReplyDeleteThe Godzilla project is going well, but slow. I just added 4 new progress pictures to the album. I spent much of today laminating the rub-rail around the stern - lots of epoxy, monel staples, and stainless screws. It should be pretty strong! With the tight radius of the stern and the complex angles, I had to use 6 strips of trim to make a part the size and shape of the 1x3 rubrail I installed on the sheer last weekend, and even then, I had a hard time making them lie flat. I'd love to visit the Great Lakes. Seeing those tugs and ore ships in real-life must be amazing. Maybe some day... I'll make a standalone page of the Devlin boats one of these days - the MSN site has just a 3 MB limit, and I've used up almost half of that already. I wish they would up the limit. If any of you guys are in the Puget Sound area, I'd be happy to show you the project...
ReplyDeleteIt's really looking good Tom ---Joel---
ReplyDeleteHi Tom what did you make your mock honda out of ? by the way a great project looking good. Bogdolics
ReplyDeleteSorry, Bogs - I didn't see your reply until now. >>>> what did you make your mock honda out of ? It's just left over foundation isulation foam glued together with costruction adhesive and shaped with a surform. Here's some pictures of the construction. I made some new web pages of boat details. You'll probably need to install Silverlight, but it's fast and I would strongly recommend it. This is a really unique picture viewing service! (Use your mouse roller to zoom.)
