Member pojects

I would like to place my boat in the member projects section of the forum. Please advise as to the proceedure necessary. Also I would like suggestions for plans for a sailboat similar to the 1930s design, Corky that is about 18', fast, stable, roomy, and relatively light and easy to build.

Thanks,

David

  1. David, I saw your first post on 'Corky' this a.m. but didn't have time to write earlier.  I recall the name and remember that I looked at the plans quite a while ago but decided to go with the Curlew instead for a first sailboat.  As I recall it looked like a fun (and sensible) design.  Perhaps you could refresh my memory by posting the link to Corky.   I think a lot of those designs were intended for amateur builders like us so I really think that if it interests you and you think you can handle it - GO FOR IT!!!   Andy

  2. Andy, After some further investigation, Tabu sounds even more exciting. I've had a bit of Laser sailing on the San Francisco Bay so I'm used to swift and rapidly shifting winds. Now in Arkansas, I'd like to build a quick boat for lake sailing in this area. Tabu seem to fit the bill.: http://www.svensons.com/boat/?p=SailBoats/Tabu   Thanks! David

  3. Can I remind you that TABU is an old design and may have been fast in its day compared with the boats were around then. But now? Simple to build? compared again to the boats of that age yes, maybe. But now? The rig is of an old design and the construction will be heavy compared to more modern designs. If one were to go ahead and build it and It turned out to be a dog, would you get your money back? These plans may be cheap or free, but the materials still cost the same, and buying the plans is only a small part of the overall project. Have you looked at say, the Core Sound 15 or 17. http://www.bandbyachtdesigns.com A far better boat for about the same money, and the plans are quite cheap.   Jeff in the UK

  4. Bounder, Thank you, thank you, thank you - I was hoping someone would suggest options! I didn't even know where to begin. Any other options would be very welcome!!! David

  5. Bounder, I just checked out the Core Sound 15 and comparing it to the tabu, I think the tabu would be considerably faster. The core is a rather deep draught baot compared to the planing tabu, Core hull weight is 300-350 lbs compared to tabus 175lbs. The Core places 100 sq' of sail to the wind compared to tabu 165 sq'. The mast on tabu is 35lbs. The tabu is an easy build for my skills. I would very much like to find a modern design that is a real speedster (not quire such a handfull as a star) but a light weight planer with lots of sail. David
