  3. Bogs,  nice looking fender...  I have about 200 ft of old manila "barn" rope (1-1/4") which was used at a local farm for loading hay into the loft.  I have been saving it for when I do a nautical theme around my house but you have inspired me to perhaps try to make a couple of fenders myself.  I have an idea for a style of braiding which should work well.   Its funny that I have worked with rope my whole life and have always been fascinated with what I consider to be important life skills like rope splicing.  Skills I learned long ago in the Boy Scouts and have found myself using often in daily life from trailer tie-downs to calf halters for my (ex) father-in-law, repairing broken and frayed boating ropes ( I like using  manila), etc.   Thanks Bogs for bringing to mind some fun memories of Boy Scouts and earning and later teaching the Pioneering merit badge where you are required to learn alot of "rope skills" in order to earn the badge, not to mention building some cool stuff like look-out towers, rope bridges and ladders, sleeping shelters, rope making, etc.
