I've looked every where and cannot find any information at all about this boat. I have the chance to purchase a 1955 14' Lundy. It looks like it's a really nice boat, but I would like to do a little research on it before I purchase. I was told that it may have been an old kit boat but it seems unlikely. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Take care.

Sorry, I tried looking up some on the net.. I couldn't even find anything about it. What does the vessel looked like? Is it a skiff? or a rowboat perhap?
ReplyDeleteI uploaded two photos of the boat. It has a plate that says that it will hold a 40 hp motor max. Other than that, their are no other identifying marks on the boat. I thought that it was a pretty sharp looking boat, but would like to research a little more before I purchase it. Thanks in advance to all in the group. Take care Jer
ReplyDeleteI could swear as little as ten years ago Lundy was making Aluminum boats rowboats and such. I remember the name in big letters painted on the side. I may be thinking of Lund but I again swear to it. I did a look on Antique boat connections web site http://www.antiqueboat.com/boatforsale.html
ReplyDeleteto see if they by chance had one. They do not. However, they also do not have any 14' runabouts less than $3000.-. You know, I would give Lou a call at Antique Boat Connection. If anybody knows anything they would. Hell you can buy it for the $900 then list it with them for $3000. You just might mak a couple G's. I called an got ahold of Lou and he said there was a company in the 50's that was making a laminated plywood hull that they sold to manufaturers', The manufaturers' would then trim it out to there spec and sell them. That may be what you have there. Never the less, It's 14' Wood from the 50's runs, in good shape, comes with a trailer, has a nice bimini top, it's worth $3K. Buy it! Go have some fun on the water. List it with Lou. And flip it if the price is right. Kruez
Hi, I reply to you earlier, after seeing the pictures, now I know what you are talking about, it's a great deal... Don't be afraid to buy that boat, even the company name somehow long forgotten.. Or, a small boat building business that once was... Larry
ReplyDeleteI just acquired a 16 foot mahogany ply Lundy boat with a 25 bukaneer motor by gale.It even has a really old compass attached to the dash. I've never seen anything like it. It has been stored since 1980. It's in amazing shape. Seats need to be redone but other then that boat looks like it just fell out of the 40's.
ReplyDeleteI too can't find anything about Lundy anywhere. Have no idea what it's worth. Can anyone help?
It Is nearly impossible to find anything related to Lundy as a brand of boats. I am certain I've come across the brand before as this posting is a testament to.
ReplyDeleteThere is an island in the U.K. by this name with a rich maritime history, however, we believe your Lundy is a U.S. boat. Correct?
There is a current boat company called Lund that markets Aluminum boats (row boats, and outboards). It's certainly possible that this company has it's roots in Lundy but at some point dropped the Y for any number of reasons. I could swear I remember Lundy as a brand of similar craft.
I've searched the maritime museum archives from the net as well. The antique and classic boat society directory has a listing by boatbuilder and no Lundy appears there. However, that only means no one in that club owns one.
Is there an ID plate on your boat? I would love to see a picture of boat and plate. Boat even, if no plate.
I have a couple more places to look.
