Any experience with...

Any of you smart folk had any experience with a timber called Brazillian teak (Cumaro)?  It is available locally and while I haven't seen it personally, the photo I saw looks like it has the same "buttery" texture and a warm golden brown hue.  I am wondering if it could be substituted for the Asian teaks.

Specs include:

- FAS clear grade
- Rot resistant
- Decay resistant
- Insect resistant

It is priced at $2.49 per linear foot and is available in 8 - 16' lengths.  15/16" x 5-7/16" .

Any takers?

  1. OOPS!  The correct name as shown to me is Cumaru (not cumaro).   Any help would be appreciated...   Andy

I would like to inform you that we are one of the cheapest and the largest importers in the USA.

When you specify the teak in the future, please specify the application also. The teak price varies from $3 per bd ft to $50/bd ft depending on the species origin and the type of the teak. Burmese teak starts from $12.95-19.95 per bd ft in retail ( 10 bd ft) and no one can sell lower. Other plantation teak vary from $6-9 per bd ft. The so called teak ( actually not teak) such as Cumaru (known as Brazilian teak), Iroko (Known as african teak) will cost $5-$7 per bd ft.

However boat/yact applications exclusively use Burmese teak and this is the best teak available in the world and I quoted for that teak.
