Where do you buy your materials?

Lots of places and brands to choose from. Where does everyone buy their building materials? Why from that vendor......Quality? Service? Price?

  1. I purchase my wood locally (Portland,OR). Manyof my needed hardware items come from Jamestown Distributors. They seem to have good quality products at reasonable prices. Service has always been good. Their printed catalog is a good read, I always learn from it. Will   www.jamestowndistributors.com

  2. Marine grade plywood is pretty scarce in central Missouri.  I've ordered fromRare Earth Hardwoods in Traverse City, MI and M.L. Condon in White Plains, N.Y., and been satisfied with both.  Most all of my other supplies have come from Hamilton Marine in Searsport, ME, and I've been very satisfied with their service and prices.  Good luck on your project.  Paul E.

  3. G'day there! Over here in Perth, Western Australia you have to buy your bits and pieces from individual shops as there is no one allround good shop. There are a few chandlery shops that do different deals on silicon bronze screws and copper nails and stuff. I use a local timber merchant who finds me that NICE bit of timber I'm after (Morgan Timbers in O'connor). Hardware is sourced from all over Australia and overseas.   Cheers Matt Perth Classic Boat Company http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~mjfreitas/

  4. I  use East System and West system epoxies. I get the East from Noah's (see the links page) and the West from our local marine store (West Marine) or the local woodworking store (Rockler). I get my plywood from Harbor sales out of the Chesepeake area (Baltimore if my memory serves me right) they had the best price for BS-1088 Okoume. The rest of the wood I get from where ever I can...   East System has the best 5 gallon price and I am pleased with the results. All my brightwork has West 207 under the varnish for the "clear" and UV qualities.   Still looking for a good "under epoxy" stain. Specificly a red mahogany stain. Just love that red wine color.

  5. I'm based in New Zealand so some of the products I might not have access
too. I have a friend thats a boat builder that can get me some discounted
epoxy althrough I don't now what brand yet. I might get my ply from a ply
wholesaler (whose name escapes me at the moment).
But I will keep looking. Whats product do you think is the best value for
money and I will have a look to see if I can find it.
