River Boat plans

Hi I moved to the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua on a river called the Rio San Juan.  I need to build a small skiff type boat that would use a 10 to 25 hp outboard motor to fish and get up and down the river, something light because gas is expensive.  Lots of good hardwood here, planks mostly.  Thinking of building a kayak also.  Would appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks Darren

  1. Hiya Funman,   What is the most persons and gear you think you would want to haul in this boat at any one time? Shallow waters? Rough waters? What kind of tools do you have access to? Table Saw and power planer or mostly hand tools? What is your skill level on a scale of 1 to 10, ten being the highest? Plywood is out if you have access to plank material. Do you invision Carvel planking, lapstrake or batten seam construction? (See Woodenboats 101 from the home page of this site). Do you want an available free plan? First boat biuld? Are you thinking of a free plan?   Is that enough questions for you? I have access to a great many free plans. Awesome Popular Mechanics Magazine collection from the 40', 50', 60' and 70's.
