'57 Chris Craft Barracuda/New Guy

Hello Everyone!! I've just purchased a '57 Barracuda. I'm not new to boats though. In the past, I've owned various classic glass boats. My favorite was my '59 Sea Ray AquaBird. Sure miss that boat!! Anyway, I was browsing around, and stumbled upon the Chris Craft Barracuda. I fell for it instantly. After some searching, I have been reunited with my old '59 Evinrude Golden Jubilee 50th Anniversary Edition 50 horse motor. So, you can guess what my plans are!! I'm looking forward to sharing info, and talking with everyone.
Permission to come aboard??

  1. Permision to come aboard granted; with full admiration...   Ahh yes, the Barracuda. There is an article on our Articles Page about that boat kit. I too have one (sitting in the yard). And there is another owner here (within the group)as well. That's three for the group. Who knew there was so many around. It's a fine boat, I had heard that they do not turn very easily all-though I have never ridren in one yet. You might think of adding a skeg or one of those cool looking brass fins under the ski nautiques for a skeg.

Interested to see your pictures and what your plans are to restore her. Figuratively, as they were kit boats, you could do almost anything with them. There is the pictures of the unit asssembled at the factory, However, they were all kits and therefore all diferent. Is yours fitted with the engine well, or is the well open to the hull? The kits were made from 1953-58 and had evolved a bit before they retired production. Are you sure yours is from 57?   Kruez

  2. Kruez, It was advertised as a '57. It has the engine well. I hope this picture makes it through.        Jim S.

  4.   Ok, got it figred out. Can't wait to get started on this beauty!! From what I've researched, these were "dry seam" boats. Hence the low survival rate. The hull on this one has been fiberglassed. No leaks, no rot!! Can't wait for spring!           Jim S.

  5. That's definately a Baracuda. Mine was painted baby blue. I have removed the deck because I decided that I wanted it finished bright. I have the wood to replace the old deck. It's just one of those un-finished projects I have lying around. Perhaps you will give me the incentive to finish her up.
