Decking Question

I am about to replace the deck (floorboards) on my boat (1950s non-wood). Of course the old deck was marine plywood, covered with carpet

Before I go out and replace it with the exact same (and boring) decking is there anything else available that would have more style than plywood and carpet?

Could I use individual decking boards? (like teak)

Is there available some fancy type of marine plywood with a look similar to that of old wooden boat decking (with cording)?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ivan

  1. There are several options available. First is the
traditional teak & holly plywood, very

pricy but nice to look at, and may not be good for decks
    exposed to the weather. Another

choice is a product by a company called PLASTEAK. They make a
    flooring that looks

down, also a little pricy. Any wood product exposed to the
    weather will require special care.

Tongue and groove cedar may be a choice if installed with
    the required care.

  2. The teak and holly sole plywood is a real nice look for the interior. It's used a lot in newer boats... They would of used it in the 50's if it was available then.   If you want a traditional 50's look, think about the 12"x12" linoleum squares that are still used in commercial interiors over regular marine ply. That and a nice persian carpet would also look sharp. Just look down next time you are in a hospital or school. The commercial grade flooring is much thicker and more stout.

  3. I respect what you have done here. I like the part where you say you are doing this to give back however I would expect by every one of the remarks this is working for you also. wooden decking
