New Pics...

New pics (nothing fancy) posted in my album of the daysailer progress.  I don't know why a Cover Picture for the album has disappeared but anyway, its on the first page of photo albums. 

 

 I have finally managed to clear enough space in my very cramped garage to get back to work on the hull.  We have rain forcasted through next Monday so I won't be able to pull her outside to work so shall continue to rub elbows indoors in adequate (barely) space shared with boxes, saws, etc.

Time to sell!

Well Folks,

 

   It is with great regret that I must tell you that we have decided it is time to sell our 1970 27' Carver! 

   We found her 2.5 years ago sitting in a marina in IL, and fell in love immediately.  She came home with us and we started the slow task of rebuilding her.  We have all of the deck off, (totally rotten), and have had the full canvases redone with new screens and zippers, but alas...there the project stalled.

   Family and business obligations got in the way, and she has sat without any attention for quite a while now.  It does not seem that we will find more free time for her anytime in the near or even distant future either.

   We have discussed this in depth, and while I hate to let her go, I finally see the light, and the need for her to go to someone that will have the time and passion to finish restoring her to the glory that we know she can be, and get her back into the water.

   She will need a new deck, a new top board all around her, and some surface refinishing, but other than that she appears sound.  She has been stored inside the entire time, and sells with the trailer.

   You can see pictures of her in the photo album called Charcin's Boat.

 

   We are located in Oshkosh, WI, and will consider all offers. 

 For those of you that are interested, we also have a 1963 16' Cruisers on a trailer that we would consider offers for also.

Hello all!! I had to change my account. It wouldn't let me in under my old one.  I've been working on the Mark 75 I picked up. I won't be going with the Evinrude Golden Jubilee. The Mark 75 is almost 60lbs lighter, only 30lbs. heavier than an Evinrude "Big Twin" 35 h.p..      Anyway, to cold to work on the boat. I'll be getting to that when the engine is done, which will be soon. I have no garage, so, I have to wait until the weather breaks. I have photos loaded in my WebShots. Warmer Temps - Yeah!!

Don't know about the rest of you but I am so psyched for next week.  We have temps predicted in the 50's.  It has been far too long trying to work in an overcrowded garage.  With all of the snow and cold right now I can't move stuff out of there and into my basement - next week I can so I can breathe...

I need a favor

Hello all. What a wonderful group. I am a writer living in the Tampa Bay Florida area and I am in need of some expertise. I am writing a mystery set in Sarasota Florida and my main character builds wooden kayaks for a living. I have little to no experience with this and I was wondering if anyone knew a boat builder in the area who might be able to walk me through some of the basics. I would simply ask questions on this forum, but I would rather be able to witness everything first hand. Thanks for any info y'all can give me. --Adam

A little chilly here...

Good Sunday morning to all:

 

Woke up this morning at 5:15 to a temperature of  -20 deg F, windchill at -34.  I don't think I will be working on the boat today.

 

We have been getting some snow and so have about 8-10 inches on the ground.  I am thinking about bringing my cross country skis in and redoing the bottoms on them.  I got out of the habit of daily ski's a few years ago and haven't put them on since despite the fact that I enjoy being outdoors and getting a little exercise.  My snowshoes are on the porch but so far the snow is super light and fluffy and 'shoes wouldn't do me much good...

 

I am starting to get cabin fever - I guess I'll daydream about warmer temps and go back to internet searching  boats, I am still looking for that one design that I will build next...

Lost legal battle

I'm sorry to say I lost the battle with my Boro. Per a court order I will be cutting up my 1950 42' DCFB Chris Craft starting today. It must be gone by friday Feb 2, 2007 or I will be fined $7,000.00 AND jailed for 30 days.

It leaves me no choice. I will be parting out the boat which is intact at present. If there is something in hardware or wood sections you need (IE doors, seats, panels, metal parts) let me know.

I will put the remainder on EBAY on Wednesday.

God how I hate sending this...................

Cleaning the garage...

The Saga continues - We have been having moderate temps with flurries now and then - an inch or so of snow today and now the artic blast is settling in  here in the upper midwest.  My sympathies go out to all of you in the northeast.  You got what we had a couple of years ago.  Our high is predicted at 0-minus 5 for this pm with winds around 25 mph.  So wind chills should be around minus 25.

 

But the bug is biting me and I have a sailboat to finish!  So today I will turn on the heater and continue to compress "stuff" so that I can work around the boat.  I am hoping to snap some pictures soon to add to my album...

It's been awhile since I have been out here, and I have a few more questions.

As some of you know, I finished building my duck hunting boats last year right before the start of the season, (think the paint was still a little damp, opening morning).  For their purposes the boats worked great.  The Scaup by Devlin was easy to hid, hauled almost enough gear for three guys and I have to say handled bigger waves then I ever thought it would.  The Merrymeeting Bay scull boat, works ok.  There is a steep learning curve on sculling and finding a good pic or plans of a scull oar are seen as much as bigfoot is.  We sculling a few times, never moved fast enough to get into the flocks, but it was stable and could haul a fair amount of gear and even move at aobut 6 mph with a 2 hp.

So here is my question, I am going to start another boat soon, this one is going to be big, going to scarf three full sheets together and work from there.  My question is does anyone know how steep of an angle I can bend the plywood (3/4" BS 1088)?
