Looking for any books, manuels etc., on the repair and restoration of these beauties. Most "repair" or "build" are on bent frames or much smaller boats. These were production craft and surely someone has written something on them. Any help out there? Thank you.
George
George, Checking my resources, what part of the country do you and the boat reside? May be able to hook you up with someone in your area. Also, do you intend to do most of the work yourself? ReplyDeleteGeorge, Give this book a read, it may lead you in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteAnd then "the woodenboat series" http://www.woodenboat.com/wbbksgal.htm
Additional options:
Wooden Boat Restoration and Repair
George, This link is for the 1961 55' Connie Independence. The most comprehensive site on any one boat I think I have ever seen. Hit the links on the right for the details of the restoration and repair. Cool Site: Independence
ReplyDelete1961 55' Chris Craft Constellation
Ok, One more, the Classic Yacht Association and the Classic Yacht Association Restoration Page...
ReplyDeleteYou might also want to cruise to a magazine stand and look in the classified section of Wooden Boat Magazine. If I remember correctly there was at one time a passle of ads for Chris Craft 'links' there to purveyors of specialized CC stuff. Also a good place to look for older engine manuals, (Gray Marine fer shure, CC Chryslers etc). Nothing to speak of on their web mag though. I'd look at the following sites too. http://www.chris-craft.org/ http://www.boat-links.com/boatlink.html By the way....the boat links link....er...ayup... Is "John's Nautical Page - The Mother Of All Maritime Links" Perhaps THE most in-depth anything nautical resource on the web, and a black hole. Brother if you fall into this site you can kiss your job, wife and college/retirement fund goodbye.... As soon as I hear back from an old friend who owns the last boat built by Chris prior to WWII - Incidentally, was purchased by the US Army for one of the general's use in 1941or2 - (somebody's tax dollars at work...ah wartime is tough on everybody... almost...lol), I'll get back to you. I think he found a pretty deep database on the old large vessel Chris fleet etc. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the blatant misstatement in my last note re Chris resource materials.... Actually...of course..." the last boat built by Chris prior to WWII " should read... the last civilian boat built by Chris prior to WWII before production was put on a war footing. Sheesh....not enough coffee this morning? Brain gas.
