  3. Yes they are (the boats) but we are kind of hovering waiting to get in our facilities at the Cortez Schoolhouse. It will be an A+ facility once all that is on paper gets built! F.I.S.H. bought the "mangrove swamp" just east of Cortez to keep the high-rises out and the Museum, alonge with FISH, is going to try to preserve some of Cortez's fishing heritage. Folks have been living fulltime and fishing out of Cortez (Hunter's Point then) since the 1880s, when a "crew" came over from Beaufort NC. to net fish for mullit, which was outlawed in 1995 (I/E no more net fishing).   "Sport" fishermen do have their "pull"...sigh...lots of men lost their "living" when netting was outlawed...   Larry

  5. Will do...Manatee County had given us the old historic (built in 1913) Cortez School House, and grants are approved to rehab the building and grounds, the "ruling committee" is taking bids from contractors on the rehab project. Many good things are olanned including a boathouse, a boatbuilding/ rehab workshop, some roofed over but open display sheds for some of the boats, and many other things. The waterfront is going to be dredged, and an existing but silted in lagoon and access chanel is goint to be reopened up behind the building The barrier island is Anna Maria Island. Upper right is the south side of the entrance to Tampa Bay/Manatee River. The museum is the building at the top of the green triangle bottom center. all that green area belongs to the Museum/ FISH/Cortez Historical Society. The two big buildings on the waterfront are the AP Bell Fishouse and the Star Fish Company. The last 2 working fishouses in Cortez. This area was bought by Florida Institute of Saltwater Heritage (FISH) to keep high rise condos out of Cortez. There are 2-3 generation families living in Cortez with roots back to Beaufort NC. circa 1880s.   Rome wasn't built in a day and the museum won't be either but stay tuned... Larry
