The Ness Yawl on the Po River
Posted by Michael Bogoger (Doryman)
Doryman received a note from a compatriot in Italy recently about his voyage up the Po river, the longest river in Italy. This two month trip in an Iain Oughtred Ness Yawl is documented by Giacomo on his blog and it's a great story!
This is his note and a link to his site, well worth the visit:
"Congratulations for your blog and your work.
My name is Giacomo De Stefano and I rowed and sail for more than 1000 km the Po river, the Italian longest.
You can see more on my blog unaltropo.com"

That is some trip.. Wow...
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting my blog. I hope you can enjoy soon the beauty of the rivers in Italy, so unknown, and evrywhere. We really need commitment in protecting the right to water. It must be free and clean and power boats are polluting it and not protecting at all. Slow is better and gives us more. Congratulations
ReplyDeleteThank you. It is and will be a nice trip..and I am wonderfully helped by many friends.
ReplyDeleteBye and see you somewhere, if you come to Venice just mail me and i will be happy to row and sail with you
You are welcome, thank you for sharing. We try to inspire each other here. Your story is very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteYou have plans to build another boat for your "North Sea to Black Sea" trip is that right?
Kruez
Taking your time rowing or sailing, you will see more that speed boaters had missed.
ReplyDeleteLike myself in this pirogue, it is a stealthiest boat I ever used for crawdadin' and fishin'.. I catches more because it wood, it quiet, and it glides gracefully across the water surface
Thank you Kruez, thank you Boylesboats
ReplyDelete1 The new boat will be built in Chioggia, near Venice, Italy, by a group of disable friends under the super vision of Roland Poltock. I will show and update the phases of boat construction on my blog. You are welcome to come and visit us. We can find a solution to host you.
2 Of course I totally agree with you: rowing is much nore enriching and allow us to "talk" with the river, with people, with local tradition. It allow us to listen and to learn. Our culture needs attention and speed (I loved speed in the past, so much..) is one of the most overextimated thing in our system. But, as you said, we loose, we miss a lot, almost everything, to receive what? A little, or big excitment, lasting a few hours, or minutes. And it coasts, and often pollutes a lot more.
Take care my friends g
