WASTE TANKS

I'm looking for advise on areation for the blackwater and gray water tanks for JEZEBEL II. From what I've read, the key to oder control is plenty of ventilation so that the good microbes can do there job. That is to break down the waste. I'm looking at using aquairium air pumps, 1 for each tank, with a manifold of some type in the bottom of the tank to spread the air through out the large area, 28" x 54". The tanks are 20" deep. Anyone with any information or ideas? Please help.

  1. CB,   Have not heard of injecting oxygen into gray water like that before. Doesn't the RV industry use that blue liquid you buy by the gallon for the same reason?   Venting is obviously a requirement. (Preferably astern) Where did you get this Idea? A problem us small boat builders don't need to worry about much...   Kruez

  2. Kruez,

I have had several conversations with Peggy Hall on the
    BOATER-ED GROUP.

She is a real specialist on waste management. As I have been
    told, there are

good and bad microbes in all waste. The good microbes break
    down the

waste and eliminate the odors, and these microbes must have
    plenty of fresh

air to thrive and do there job. The bad microbes thrive in
    the absence of fresh

air and are the ones that cause the odor. So, to get plenty
    of fresh air into the

holding tanks I plan to use the aquarium pumps to bubble up
    thru the waste

And now you know the whole story.
